Chocolate Buttermilk Cake

  Cream sugar and Crisco together. Add eggs and beat until smooth. Add cocoa, salt, vanilla and flour alternately with buttermilk; mix well. dissolve soda in boiling water and add last. Pour into greased 9" x 13" pan. Bake at 350° F for 30 minutes. Frost with 1 can Betty Crocker dark fudge frosting mixed with 4 oz. cream cheese. Option: Remove cake from pan and cool completely. Split cake in half lengthwise. Spread filling in between layers. Frost top and sides with frosting. 2 cups sugar
3/4 cup Crisco
2 eggs
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2½ cups cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 can Betty Crocker dark fudge frosting
4 oz. cream cheese.
Filling Option:
4 oz. cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 oz. Cool Whip or beat 1 cup Rich's topping until stiff
