Neighbors Delight Cake
In a
mixing bowl, cream the sugar and egg yolks until fluffy. Gradually add the
milk and place in heavy 2 quart sauce pan. Bring to a boil on medium heat
and cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly, approx. 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in jello. Cool. When cool, add drained
pineapple. Whip the cream to soft peaks. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg
whites and whipped cream. Cut half the cake in thin slices to cover bottom
of 9" x 13" cake pan. Pour half the whipped mixture over cake. Sprinkle
half the cherries on top. Cut the other half of cake in thin slices and
place on top of mixture. Add remaining whipped mixture and cherries and
freeze for at least 8 hours before serving. Remove from freezer 30 minutes
before serving. |
1 angel food cake
1 cup granulated sugar
2 egg yolks, save whites for later
2 cups milk
1 3 ounce package lemon jello
1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
2 cups whipping cream
1 cup maraschino cherry halves |
