Mammy's Applesauce Cookies Amish Cooking Dessert Recipes

Preheat oven to 350° F. Mix together the shortening, brown sugar and egg. Stir in the applesauce. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Add to liquid mixture. Add raisins and/or black walnuts if desired. Drop onto cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

Makes 3½ dozen cookies.

3/4 cup soft shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup applesauce
2¼ cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup of seedless raisins (optional)
1/2 cup nuts, black walnuts (optional)
